The Old Shades (Les Vieilles Ombres)
The Old Shades (Les Vieilles Ombres) is located in the historic village of Bagnizeau, named after the Roman legions who, 2,000 years ago, used the banks of the River Antenne as a natural bathing spot. Today, visitors can explore the 11th-century Norman church, enjoy a game on the village’s impressive boules court, or fish and walk along the river that borders the village. For those feeling more active, the area is perfect for cycling or a leisurely stroll through vineyards and fields of various crops.
A few words from Chris and Sharon Clark (owners of The Old Shades since 2017)
Formerly a farmer in the UK, Chris managed both the farm and a successful contracting business, while Sharon oversaw the farm’s livery and handled administration from the office. Moving to France had always been a dream, but with work and family ties in the UK, they never quite took the leap. However, after their son George was born in 2010, the years seemed to fly by, and they soon realized life was too short to keep waiting. From the moment they discovered The Old Shades, Chris and Sharon were captivated – and so began their exciting new adventure.
Fast forward 7 years later…
Now 7 years into our adventure all is well and we have made some great friends by seeing some guests every year. The Old Shades has really become a great family resort with happy kids and even happier adults and we like to think we have been a big part of making peoples holidays memorable.
We have worked extremely hard in the previous years keeping the gites at a high standard and regularly updating the rooms which have given us our 4 star rating for the past 5 years which we are very proud of. George has become an excellent part of our team in the summer and a fabulous French teenager who has settled into French life easily. He is a huge part of the NCA Waterpolo team and also played for our region in the “Coupe de france” in 2024.
Chris and Sharon enjoy playing golf and going to the gym in the spare time between painting, decorating and gardening.
